Businesses throughout the state are being warned by the Secretary of the State and Attorney General about an official looking "Annual Report Instruction Form" they may receive in the mail. The form stating that payment is required by CT law is being sent by "Workplace Compliance Services." Click here to see a copy of the bogus form.
"This scam targets small businesses and, unfortunately, resurfaces every few years in an attempt to cheat hardworking business owners," said Attorney General George Jepsen. "Scams like this one try to appear legitimate, but business owners shouldn't fall for it."
Secretary Merrill reminds business owners, "If you are ever unsure about the legitimacy of a business filing notice you receive, please contact my office at 860-509-6003 or email us at email@example.com. We are ready and eager to help any Connecticut business owner."
If your business does receive one of these bogus forms, the Office of the Attorney General asks that you send a complaint to firstname.lastname@example.org, and include a copy of the mailing. Click here to read the full notice on ct.gov.
