ACCOUNTING CAREER FAIRS 101

Accounting career fairs can be a nerve-racking and stressful experience without proper preparation and guidance. As you go through your recruiting process, it is important to be confident in your communication and well-informed around the company of your choice. Here are some tips to help ready you for your first accounting career fair:

1. Focus on building your personal brand.
First impressions are a crucial part of building your personal brand. The recruiting process is all about being yourself and building strong relationships with your potential future employers. Dress to impress. Practice your elevator pitch. Be ready to effectively communicate your experiences, your expectations, and your skillsets. Be prepared to follow-up with the professionals that you meet and thank them for their time and consideration. Being able to effectively communicate in a clear and concise manner will help strengthen your personal brand.

2. Update your resume.
Recruiters want to know specific information about your academic career to help them determine the direction of your recruiting process. Career Services is a great resource to ensure that your resume is up to date and contains the key information that recruiters look for. Your resume reflects on your attention to detail. Always be sure that the information you put on your resume is correct and up-to-date.

3. Do your research.
What are you looking for in a future employer? What is important to you in a career? Research the companies that interest you and be prepared to talk to them about what you have to offer. Companies enjoy talking to candidates who are driven and passionate about what they want. Understanding a company’s mission statement, the services that they provide, and the opportunities to help you grow as a professional are some key things to think about as you go through your recruiting process.

The most important thing to remember while going through the campus recruiting process is to be yourself. Interviews and recruiting events are a two-way street. As much as companies are getting to know you, you are also getting to know them. It is important to focus on what matters to you. Execute everything with intention and purpose to help set yourself up for a better future.
