With the Coronavirus pandemic making it harder for tax preparers and clients to work together in person, the IRS has issued a memorandum extending loosened Email and E-Signature policies through June 30, 2021. The memo will temporarily allow IRS employees to accept scanned or photographed images of signatures and digital signatures on documents related to tax assessment and collection. Another benefit, is this will also allow IRS employees to use email to accept documents and secure messaging systems to transmit them to taxpayers.
