While 90,000+ families have filed for the state’s new child tax rebate, many more Connecticut families are eligible for the funds.
Within its first week, 90,320 low- and moderate-income families applied for the $250-per-child rebate, said Rep. Sean Scanlon. As a result, 144,313 Connecticut children and their families will benefit from it. State officials estimate about 350,000 more Connecticut households are eligible for the rebate. Scanlon says he would consider it a “huge victory” if at least two-thirds of those remaining eligible families apply.
Here are the details of Connecticut’s new child tax rebate:
- It is a $250-per-child rebate with a maximum of $750 per household.
- It is available to single parents who have earned less than $100,000 in 2021.

- It can be claimed on behalf of children born on or before Dec. 31, 2021.
- Families must file with the state’s Department of Revenue Services between June 1 and July 31.
- The Department of Revenue Services is expected to mail payments in August 2022.
