Many years into his career, Howard Foote is energized by a multigenerational office.
Howard Foote has worked at the same place for over 46 years: UHY LLP. It’s changed a lot since he started in accounting with the small Albany firm Urbach Kahn & Werlin. The firm went international and has grown to become one of the largest in the world.
It’s the largest firm in Albany, too, with around 60 local CPAs. The organization’s culture of connection, and the chance to mentor the next generation, are what has kept Foote around for decades.
You’ve been at UHY and its predecessor since 1976. What has made you stay?
The opportunity to be with people of other generations. I feel the same way about Siena. You can find no better environment to work with generation after generation than in a professional services firm. I might be a baby boomer, but the millennial generation and certainly Gen Z has such an enthusiastic, excited kind of motivation. And they’ve been under some stresses. But being around them is spectacular. Having the camaraderie of those that have that excitement and enthusiasm and a commitment to better themselves and better the world and to do the right thing keeps everybody excited and inspired.
