Staffing companies need to beware: ransomware is a rapidly growing threat, especially to staffing firms. Last year, there were more than 623 million ransomware attacks globally, an increase of 105% from the previous year. With the large number of people and clients they deal with, staffing firms could prove particularly vulnerable.
“In general, staffing companies are more susceptible to it because they are more open to communications and more open to random communications than some other entities would be,” UHY Consulting senior manager Ty Coffee said. Ransomware is the No. 1 cybersecurity concern for staffing companies followed by compromised business emails, according to Coffee.
The first step is for staffing firms to make sure employees know how to identify suspicious emails and express caution with attachments from unknown or unverified senders. “You’ve got to train your people what the risks are — what to look for in those communications,” Coffee said.
