LIBN Spotlights Alanna Abreu in Who's Who in Women in Professional Services

Navigating their companies and clients through the rest of 2023, Long Island professionals in all areas of business are busy setting a clear and positive path. In the 2023 Long Island Business News Who’s Who in Women in Professional Services, many top experts in their field glance into the rest of 2023 and reveal what trends can be expected and the challenges the region may face.

Alanna Abreu is a principal at UHY Advisors, Inc., a leading national accounting firm that offers a full suite of accounting and advisory services to middle-market businesses. Abreu has about 15 years of audit and advisory experience with a concentration in FAR and employee benefit plan audits. She specializes in multiple industries, including professional services, manufacturing, construction, and not-for-profit. Abreu has extensive experience completing assessments for client internal controls, accounting systems, efficiency reviews and more.

Her professional experience also includes employee benefit plan audits, FAR audits, writing and development of internal control policies and accounting manuals, Gap analysis and implementation and financial analysis for management. Sustainability is an emerging trend in businesses today, Abreu noted.

"More recently, there have been several discussions around it, specifically in the not-for-profit industry," she said. "I work with many clients within the private and public sectors to build a road map that will assist them to be sustainable. We aim to create a more robust infrastructure that would allow them to remain stable if something like Covid were to happen again."

"I am passionate about leveraging my expertise to assist clients in transforming their companies more digitally," Abreu said. "From converting their reporting processes to enabling them to have more timely information to make real-time judgment calls for their business."

Abreu earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Lemoyne College. She is a Certified Design Accountant and earned a Cybersecurity Advisory Services Certification and a Cybersecurity Practical Application Certification. She is a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.
