Alongside industry trends, challenges and business strategies are Long Island’s professional women who continue to establish impressive milestones for both their companies and themselves. In the 2024 Long Island Business News Who’s Who in Women in Professional Services, some of the region’s top professional women share their views about some of the issues they are navigating in 2024.
Shannon Lancellotti is a senior tax manager at UHY Advisors Northeast, Inc. Lancellotti has more than 16 years of experience providing tax compliance and consulting services to large international and domestic financial institutions, U.S. broker-dealers and asset management firms. Her tax experience encompasses assistance and advice with respect to tax planning strategies, return filings, tax examinations, credits and incentives, and state and local taxation. Lancellotti also served as the tax specialist on audits of large international and domestic banks and other entities providing financial services.
Her professional experience includes reviewing and preparing of domestic and international financial institution tax compliance and accounting; strategic planning with credit and incentive initiatives; state and local taxation tax matters including nexus studies, volunteer disclosure agreement compliance and apportionment analysis.
As a CPA, Lancellotti said she has witnessed firsthand how Artificial Intelligence (AI) has revolutionized tax research and processes, bringing significant benefits to both her profession and the firm’s clients. “AI enhances accuracy and speed by analyzing vast amounts of data, identifying patterns, and ensuring we always have up-to-date information,” she said.
“By automating routine tasks, AI enables CPAs to focus on more complex, value-added activities like tax planning and advisory services,” Lancellotti said. “This not only improves our job satisfaction and professional growth but also allows us to spend more time with our clients, offering personalized advice and strengthening relationships. Additionally, AI’s predictive analysis offers strategic tax planning insights, helping us forecast liabilities and identify potential savings for our clients.”
Lancellotti is a licensed CPA in the State of New York. She earned a master’s degree in taxation from Fordham Gabelli School of Business and bachelor’s degree in accounting from Binghamton University School of Management. Her active and prior professional memberships include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.
