Maryland Governor Wes Moore has unveiled an initial budget framework with just weeks remaining in the 2025 legislative session. While the details have not been finalized, Moore says it will put emphasis on spending cuts over tax increases and claims the budget will include the largest amount of cuts in a state budget in more than 15 years.
Over the course of a Friday morning edition of FOX45 Morning News, Tom Rodgers and Megan Gilliland spoke with a pair of republican lawmakers and a financial expert about the announced framework. Republican Senator Justin Ready, who represents Carroll and Frederick Counties, says that while spending cuts are present tax increases will still have an impact on many Marylanders.
Financial expert from UHY Advisors, Inc., Harold Mohn meanwhile is focused on what was not said during the Thursday's announcement.
"[Governor Moore] had put out a proposal early on talking about changes to the tax code for individuals," Mohn said. "One of them was about itemized deductions, you notice he didn't say anything about that [Thursday]."
