Why UHY Is Turning Some Acquisition Opportunities Down

Change is coming to the accounting industry. 

It's why Howard Foote, managing partner of UHY's Albany office, said the international firm is looking to grow in New York by acquisition. But Foote said it has to be the right kind of acquisition that will bring in fresh talent.

UHY has around 60 CPAs in the Capital Region and is the largest CPA firm in the area. The international accounting firm got its U.S. start in Albany as Urbach Kahn & Werlin. Its clients today are focused in manufacturing and technology, closely held businesses and financial services.

"Many firms have come to us talking about culture and in an interest of. trying to find a way to get better people, to provide more services, to provide support for the growth of their firms, in terms of the careers of their colleagues. And we've turned them away," Foote said. "We're focused on CPAs like us, professionals like us, that have an interest in their colleagues, their clients, their communities and are committed to it. That's not an exit strategy. This is about really creating a culture."
