UHY is excited to share that The Western Golf Association (WGA) has named Steve Wendling as its Missouri State Chair, positioning him at the forefront of efforts to expand the impact of the Evans Scholars Foundation (ESF) and professional golf in the region. His leadership will play a crucial role in raising awareness, increasing scholarship funding, and strengthening youth caddie programs in Missouri and Kansas.
Wendling, a longtime advocate for youth development in golf, will serve a six-year term through 2030. His appointment underscores the WGA’s commitment to fostering opportunities for young caddies with limited financial means, many of whom aspire to earn the prestigious Evans Scholarship—a full tuition and housing college award. Currently, 41 Evans Scholars are attending the University of Missouri, part of the 1,190 scholars nationwide at 24 top universities.
Beyond his leadership in youth caddie initiatives, Wendling’s appointment aligns with a significant moment for Missouri golf. In 2026, St. Louis' Bellerive Country Club will host the BMW Championship, a FedExCup Playoff event that benefits the ESF. The event’s return to Missouri highlights the region’s growing role in national golf events and its contribution to the game’s future.
“I’m honored to join the WGA Board of Governors as Missouri State Chair and look forward to supporting the WGA and ESF,” said Wendling. “We have a dedicated group of WGA Directors in Missouri, and we are committed to providing more opportunities for deserving young caddies to attend college through the Evans Scholarship. The upcoming BMW Championship at Bellerive will further elevate support for the ESF and the work we’re doing.”
A graduate of Purdue University and a licensed CPA, Wendling brings a wealth of leadership experience from his role as National Practice Leader for Client Accounting Services at UHY. Since becoming a WGA Director in 2011, he has been instrumental in advancing the organization’s mission.
An active member of Missouri’s golf community, Wendling belongs to Bellerive Country Club, Dalhousie Golf Club, and Westborough Country Club, where he previously served as president. His deep ties to the sport and business expertise will be valuable in furthering the mission of the WGA and ESF.
As Wendling steps into this influential role, Missouri’s golf community looks forward to building on the momentum of the Evans Scholars Program, fostering the next generation of golf leaders, and showcasing the sport’s positive impact on young lives.
